Let's talk about sweating and deodorants.
Did you know that sweat doesn't actually stink? It's the bacteria that live on our skin (skin flora) that metabolises in proteins and fatty acids in from the sweat that causes that nasty odour.
So what do deodorants do? They neutralise and kills off the bacteria. Killing off your bacteria on your skin is not a great move, it will only allow for bad bacteria to make themselves at home. Which can be problematic for your skin and make you smell more. But we also have antiperspirants, and they work differently. Instead of the odour, they just block your poor with aluminium salts (which ain't good for your body), bypassing the sweat all together.
Now, why is this bad? For one, if your body starts to sweat, its a reason for it. Sweating is a way for your body to cool itself down, or eliminate toxins. Sweating is a normal biological process. So spraying or rolling on an antiperspirant deodorant will keep you nice and dry but it isn't the smartest move for your body.
So what can you use instead? USE A NATURAL DEODORANT!
But do they work? YES!
There are so so many natural deodorants on the market. And they the price difference is not that much either (as soon as we say n a t u r a l e people think it's aka expensive).
The only downside about switching to a natural deodorant is that you are gonna get extra smelly and sweaty for a wee while. How long for? Depends. It can take a week or 3 months. But is it worth it? HELL YEAH. But when you've reached to the point that your armpits are back to normal you will overall sweat LESS and LESS stinky or not at all. So all in all, your armpits and health are safe and no sweat marks or stinky person.
So which deodorant shall I use?
Here are some of my favourites:
Salt of the Earth Spray Deodorant (pictured - recommended if you’ve never used a natural deodorant)
Salt of the Earth Pure Aura Natural Lavender & Vanilla Spray Deodorant (same as the one pictured but with a nice scent)
Native Unearthed Natural Deodorant Balm Activated Charcoal (never tried but heard good things)
Aurelia Botanical cream deodorant (expensive but amazing!)
Nuud (this one is amazing and you don’t have to apply every day! Recommended if you’ve never used a natural deodorant)
